"The reason I’m making this film, is so that I can take you on a journey so you can understand why my connection and my people’s connection and non-indigenous people’s connection to country is so important and so sacred.
Big Spirit Kantri brings a fresh lens to Australia’s highest profile issues and indeed issues that are plaguing the world. Protecting one of the oldest living cultures and the most cultural and ceremonial rich landscape on the planet is what this film is about.
Big Spirit Kantri is our story about Indigenous peoples connection to country which is under threat from full scale industrialisation. This film offers solutions to the big questions the whole world must deal with, like global warming, finite resources, displacement of peoples’ driven by the greed economy of the financial and resources industries.
Big Spirit Kantri is a celebration of the people who live in the Kimberley region of Western Australia: one of the worlds last greatest intact cultural and ceremonial landscapes.
Our people in this film live on the land, work on the land and importantly the Sovereign people who see the land is a living being, all know that Kantri (country) must be taken care of." Mitch Torres, Writer and Director
